Waverley GM moves on

Waverley Council’s general manager Kim Anson is leaving after seven years in the top job to take up the post of GM at Marrickville Council in July.

Ms Anson has a long history at the council where she worked for 17 out of the past 19 years, initially taking on the job as head of community services in 1989. After that she was deputy general manager, director of corporate and technical services, and director of library and community services before being appointed general manager in March 2001.

In the two years away from Waverley Council, Ms Anson was a senior executive in the NSW Department of Housing,

Ms Anson said she was pleased to have spent an ‘extremely busy and fulfilling 17 years’ at the council.

‘Waverley is very special. I’ve had the great fortune to work with terrific mayors, councillors, staff and community members who have all been committed to protecting and improving the area,’ she said. ‘I look around Waverley and I’m pleased to see so many tangible improvements that we have achieved together. I’m excited at the thought of new challenges at Marrickville.’

Waverley Mayor Ingrid Strewe said Ms Anson had done an excellent job for Waverley and Marrickville Council was ‘lucky to get her’.

‘Kim is the only general manager I’ve ever worked with. Everyone seems to love her and she has great people skills. All the staff has enjoyed working with her and I know I have,’ Councillor Strewe said.

The mayor wished Ms Anson well in the next chapter of her career and said she was very pleased the departing GM had agreed to help manage the recruitment process for her replacement.

The council is advertising nationally and in New Zealand, the UK and Hong Kong. Applications for the position close on May 14, and councillors from each party will be included on the interview panel.

‘We’re looking forward to getting someone as good as Kim,’ the mayor said.
