In a bizarre incident at Shark Park this weekend, video of the South Sydney Rabbitohs mascot Reggie the Rabbit allegedly pushing a nine-year-old fan has gone viral.

The young supporter, Benji, attended the Cronulla Sharks game with family. After the Sharks’ 27-12 victory, Benji and his friends, clad in Sharks jerseys, approached Reggie the Rabbit, hoping for a celebratory high-five.

Instead, video footage shows the mascot allegedly pushing Benji near the face, causing him to stumble backward. A security guard then allegedly admonished Benji for touching the mascot.

It appears that the initial video from Tiktok has now been removed.

Mother of 9-year-old disappointed by bizarre Reggie the Rabbit incident

Benji’s mother, Caroline Agius, expressed her concern over the incident, highlighting the shock experienced by her son and her disappointment in the mascot’s behavior.

“From what my son Benji has told me, he was with his mates lining up there and they could see Reggie Rabbit coming up,” Agius told Newscorp.

“And they were all like ‘let’s see if we can get a high-five’.”

“So Benji popped his hand out, as you can see in the video, and he went to get a high-five but was pushed away instead.

“He was then told off by a security guard for getting too close or for touching him, from what Benji said.

“Benji apparently touched the mascot and was told off by the security guard.”

Newscorp journalists asked how Benji is after the incident, and Agius said: “He’s all right. He was more in shock.”

Agius says she has since contacted both the Rabbitohs and the NRL to address the matter.

Rabbitohs & Sharks aware of incident, confirm beloved NRL figure’s involvement

The Rabbitohs have acknowledged the allegations, stating they are conducting an internal investigation and have reached out to Agius to inform her of the ongoing inquiry.

Rabbitohs chief executive Blake Solly also confirmed to SMH it was Charles Gallico inside the mascot uniform at the time of the incident.

80-year-old Gallico has been the man inside the Reggie The Rabbit suit for more than two decades, and is a beloved figure in NRL circles.

Sharks chief executive Dino Mezzatesta confirmed to SMH he had been made aware of the situation.

“The Sharks and Rabbitohs are working towards what’s happening, the NRL have been made aware, we are waiting for further advice as to what’s happened,” Mezzatesta said. “We’ll let the investigation take its course.”
