Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day
Image: I usually avoid all mention of this highly commercial day because too often it means fixed menus, overstretched kitchens, hard-to-find reservations and not a lot of bang for your buck. But I’m not above reading menus. So if I were you, I’d take your honey to Restaurant Atelier’s Valentine Dinner Degustation Weekend.

But I’m not above reading menus. So if I were you, I’d take your honey to Restaurant Atelier’s Valentine Dinner Degustation Weekend.

Darren Templeman will whet your appetite with a Twice Cooked Quail and Fig Salad before upping the ante with a Confit King Salmon and Foie Gras Terrine with Horseradish Snow. I won’t give it all away, but imagine the smile on your lady’s face when her Tropical Fruit Soufflé arrives with a Coconut Milkshake!

You’ll be up for $95 a head, $145 with matched wines; and Bernadette Templeman sure knows how to pick them! She also assures me the “mid-1800’s building with small rooms and exposed brickwork lends itself to an ‘Old World’ romanticism.” Ah it’s almost enough to convince jaded ol’ me…
