Tomatillo *UPDATED*

Tomatillo *UPDATED*

It’s a hot summer night, the air is thick, the stomach is rumbling and a call to tequila has sounded in your brain. Mosey on down to the sandstone dining room on the main drag of Kings Cross and order from the considerable menu of Tequila delights, most of which I have not seen in Australia before. Throw back an Amate Reposado ($9) before stepping up to the good stuff. The Caramba Extra Anejo ($14) is extremely smooth (think aged cognac) and a great antidote to a big Mexican meal; while the Caramba Pink Reposado ($14) is an ultra premium tequila aged in Bordeaux barrels which tastes slightly sweet, so it begs to be sipped. Don’t be afraid of ordering a frozen Lime Margarita ($8.50) as a chaser. As for the eats, I’m all about Californian Nachos ($10.90) ‘ locally made corn tortilla base, refried beans, cheese, jalapenos and your choice of meat/vegetables. It’s somewhere between nachos and a pizza, and a perfect size to share ‘ especially if you need some of their excellent Chipotle Glazed Ribs ($16/half, $24/full) or a Chorizo Quesadilla ($10) as well. Everything’s fresh, the staff are smiling, the dining room has rustic charm, it’s open late and tequila makes you happy ‘ what more do you need’
