Three out of four ain’t bad

The Bondi surf life saving club has now won three out of the last four awards, after Bondi was recently judged champion club of the Surf Life Saving Sydney branch for the second consecutive year. It has now taken out the award in two of the previous three seasons.

Its prize for the coveted award, announced at the branch’s Awards of Excellence presentation at the Sutherland Trade Union Club in Gymea, was a fully equipped IRB or “rubber ducky” as they are commonly known.

The night climaxed a highly successful season for the Bondi club, which was also overall winners of both the Waverley district and branch patrol efficiency competitions, while its four-time Australian champion women’s open R & R team received “high commendation” in the branch’s Team of the Year category.

All the branch’s 15 clubs, stretching from Burning Palms in the Royal National Park to North Bondi, entered the awards.

“I congratulate all sections of the club operations for a job well done,” Bondi president Rod Harvey said.

“The award was calculated on our response/involvement in a range of surf life saving club operations including patrolling, administration, gear inspections-maintenance, awards gained, competition participation, and Surf Life Saving Sydney involvement/meeting attendances.”
