The Sense Of An Ending

The Sense Of An Ending

A film adaptation of a novel of the same name by British author Julian Barnes, this is a slow moving drama starring Jim Broadbent.

When Tony Webster (Broadbent), a retired man, receives a letter one day informing him that he has inherited a diary belonging to his high school best friend it opens up past memories of his youth and first love Veronica.

Years later he’s still trying to make sense of these past relationships including the suicide of his best friend.

Told through dual storylines and a series of flashbacks, this is a slow moving drama, with just enough intrigue to keep the audience engaged.

There are some great performances here, Emily Mortimer as Veronica’s mother Sarah Ford is superb so too is the younger Veronica, played by Freya Mavor.

The ending though that the title refers to is all rather elusive, as the film ends with many unanswered questions.
