THE SCREAMING TRIBESMEN – REDUX
If you were expecting naked bearded chaps with extreme septum piercings yelling, prepare to be disappointed. I don’t think you would go very well claiming false advertising either. The Screaming Tribesmen are an iconic alternative Aussie rock band. The started out in Brisbane but then moved down the coast to the big-smoke, Sydney. They also have enough ex-members to field an Aussie Rules team. Many of these musos had also been in and out other similar outfits of the time like The Celibate Rifles, Radio Birdman and Died Pretty.Sound and time wise they are wedged into that post-punk, pre-grunge era like The Pixies or Jane’s Addiction. Washing over the top of that is a surf music like sound or influence. There is also an element of modern blues-rock, like a, dare I say Guns and Roses. These re-released tracks are a mixture of studio recorded tracks and live recordings. Some of the live stuff sounds like its been recorded on a cheap cassette tape deck but its cool to get the vibe of the live gig. This record is great for the die-heard fan or even the newcomer wishing to be initiated by the tribesmen.
