If you feel alienated from the source of your food, stop ‘reaching for the packet’ and get back to the idea of hunting and gathering your food from nature’s own a la carte – our gardens, oceans, rivers, fields and forests. Take an inspiring trip to Mulloon Creek Natural Farms (45 minutes from Canberra) for the inaugural Hunter Gatherer event on Sunday 21st March. In the picturesque surrounds of a high country valley in the Great Dividing Range you will find wild species including venison, wallaby and duck; domestic beef from Angus and Devon herds, Wessex Saddleback pork, trout, yabbies, honey, blackberries, herbs and vegetables from the farm garden.

Four of Australia’s top chefs will be let loose on the farm to prepare lunch from their hunted and gathered bounty. Damien Pignolet from Bistro Moncur, is already excited: “I am especially looking forward to hunting and gathering wild, natural food. I hope to prepare charcuterie from the Wessex Saddleback pig.” If this unique event doesn’t inspire you to move away from the supermarket, then nothing will!
