Confession time: I got married in Vegas by ‘Elvis’ in a pink Cadillac. So, I got a bit misty-eyed walking into this great little space, decked out like a movie set small-town American diner, accurate down to the slightly bored waitress in denim cut-offs. Charming head chef Zachary Sykes mans the grill with aplomb. Between burger flips, he coyly warns the Baja Dog ($9.50)is a messy one… it’s not a first date thing.” When our (gluten free) spiced sausage sandwiched in a bun overflowing with chilli con carne, sour cream, guacamole, salsa, cheese and chopped habaneros arrives, I have to agree. To be honest, I am more about his Mum’s Macaroni and Cheese ($11.50) with a side of Chilli Chips ($7.50) to get a taste of the ‘Famous Homemade Chilli’ with good quality ground beef. Generous serves mean you will have to be hungry to fit in some Barbeque Pork Baby Back Ribs ($8/ 6) as well, but believe me, they’re tasty right down to the last lick. Appropriate tunes, a fruity jug of White Sangria ($30) and a platter of sizzling beef Fajitas ($15) make you want to sit a while, watching for The Man From Another Place. So expect a wait…
