THE BAT-HUMAN PROJECT
“Bats and humans need each other. They desperately need us to protect and build their habitat and, in turn, we need them to pollinate our native forests,” says new media artist Dr Keith Armstrong, who is behind the interdisciplinary arts initiative, the Bat-Human Project. In case you haven’t heard – our own Naked City gang has trumpeted the bats’ cause a few times in these pages – there are plans afoot to boot the bats from their Royal Botanic Gardens home. The Bat-Human Project, which is less like a scientific experiment than it sounds, gives us the chance to find out more about our flying fox friends. MCed by Adam Hills, the sunset get-together promises bat-making workshops, face-paintings, Q&As with scientists, urban planners and artists, plus wildlife docos and more. Pack a picnic and witness some of the thousands of bats that call Sydney home wheeling overhead. (AB)
