THE AGONY & ECSTASY OF STEVE JOBS
The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs, is a monologue that examines the many different sides of one of the world’s most intriguing companies, Apple.
Monologist Mike Daisey takes a look at the company through the eyes of its former creative head, Steve Jobs.
“It ostensibly concerns two intertwined story lines, one of which is about the evolution of Apple and industrial design,” says Daisey. “Using Steve Jobs in the transformation he created in user interface as a way of talking about that.”
“The contrasting thread is where these devices come from and the human cost of creating.”
Daisey travelled to the factories of Southern China where Apple makes parts for their products. There he witnessed first-hand the atrocities of factory life.
While Jobs, who was diagnosed with cancer, no longer heads Apple, Daisey believes he is still central to the company’s story.
“The fact is that all these devices, and all the devices we all use, have this interesting intimacy with Steve Jobs” says Daisey. “In a very direct way he is responsible for the shape of the world we live in.”
Daisey, who has been dubbed ‘the master storyteller’ by the New York Times will no doubt put on a compelling show, from what is already a very captivating tale.
