New pedestrian safety works along Tamarama Marine Drive in May will be funded by the federal government via the Transport for NSW Road Safety Improvement Program.
The proposed works, which is open to community consultation until April 13, will replace the existing pedestrian island with a raised pedestrian crossing, replace the existing light poles from the Gully-side of Tamarama Marine Drive with energy-efficient, dimmable light poles and upgrade existing bus shelters in the area.
The works also seek to move one bus shelter “slightly further down Tamarama Marine Drive” towards Bronte, to increase accessibility and the safety of commuters when alighting or boarding buses. One parking space will be lost to accommodate the new bus zone.
Tamarama construction to take 10 weeks, face-to-face feedback scheduled for April
Waverley Council hopes to complete construction ten weeks after works begin in May and have called on the community to provide feedback on the proposed works.
To submit feedback, the community is encouraged to complete an online survey on the council consultation page, or contact the General Manager. There will also be a face-to-face feedback session on the last Saturday (9 April) before the consultation period closes, with council officers to be onsite at Tamarama to discuss the proposed works with the community.
Waverley Mayor Paula Masselos affirmed council’s commitment to protecting pedestrians, saying that “calmer traffic will help create a safer community”.
Waverley Council Project Manager Donald Yarad and Engagement Officer Angelena Locke have been assigned to the Tamarama works.
