From the 18th-21st June, 2009 our fair city will be celebrating all things chilly with the inaugural Sydney Winter Festival www.winterfestival.com.au taking place at St Mary’s Cathedral forecourt. The biggest and coolest attraction will be an outdoor ice rink, but the winter foodie will also be catered to with a wide variety of foods from all over the world. Keep an eye out for one of my own favourite winter warmers, Glühwein or mulled wine.

As you eat your way through thirty two food and beverage stalls, you’ll graze through the offerings of big name Sydney chefs  like Justin North, whose restaurant stable includes Becasse, Etch and Plan B by Becasse. He’ll be serving up Winter Cassoulet with a Chandon red at his Etch stall, and a pure black Angus beef burger with an enticing Hennessy Cognac and chocolate cocktail at his Plan B by Becasse stall. Azuma and Restaurant Balzac will also have stalls.

If you want to don skates and trip the ice fantastic, book a session online http://winterfestival.eventbrite.com as they’re selling out quickly. Skate hire is included in the twenty dollar price, though if you have your own skates you’re eligible for a five dollar discount. If breaking your ankle seems likely, why not sit back and enjoy an outdoor a wintery movie, or some snow-boarding action, or pet a donkey in the winter petting zoo instead?
