A Sydney train guard has been suspended after he was found live-streaming himself ranting and delivering F-bomb-riddled comments about passengers while on duty.

The Sydney Trains employee made offensive comments about passengers, describing commuters as “dumb”. The train guard claimed some commuters could not “decide” whether to board a train or not.

“A lot of dumb fuck passengers today. You expect the train to wait for you like a fucking taxi,” he said.

The video was posted online on Sunday, August 11 and has since gained traction, capturing the attention of politicians and his employer, Sydney Trains.

In the video, the guard claimed that “in the old days, you used to bash the fuck out of passengers.”

The guard, who was reportedly earning $80 an hour during the rant, has been suspended while Sydney Trains investigates the incident.

A Sydney Trains spokesperson stated that they were “aware” of the footage.

“We treat the safety of our passengers and workforce with the utmost seriousness. The behaviour witnessed in this video falls well short of the standards we expect,” they said in a statement.

The Sydney Trains employee has been identified and is suspended from duty while an investigation is conducted.

“This incident will be managed in accordance with our code of conduct and operational safety procedures”, the spokesperson said.

NSW Premier and Transport Minister Condemn Guard’s Actions

NSW Premier Chris Minns and Minister for Transport Jo Haylen both condemned the guard’s actions.

“It’s not appropriate to swear at members of the public, I’m surprised I have to say that, but clearly there’s really strict rules and regulations in place, and that are there for a reason,” Premier Minns said.

Transport Minister Jo Haylen described the Sydney Trains employee’s actions as “unacceptable in every single way”.

“I emphasise, however, that the vast majority of the 10,000 staff who run our rail network take a great deal of pride in what they do,” Transport Minister Haylen said.

“They bring a great deal of professionalism to their job every day”, she added.

“We want to make sure the public have a good experience on NSW public transport – pleased to say, generally speaking, they do and once the new Metro is up and running that will doubly be the case”, Premier Minns said.
