Celebrating the iconic venue’s 50th Birthday, the Sydney Opera House will be releasing 50 archived recordings of performances held within the theatre.

From September to October, the 50/50 program will release footage from iconic artists performing at the Sydney Opera House. These will be available to stream through their website for free.

Since opening in 1973, the venue has hosted thousands of local and international guests. The Opera House will be providing access to an array of performances from theatre, opera, dance, music and keynote speaking icons.

With thousands of accredited performers having visited the venue, Sydney Opera House’s Head of Screen Stuart Buchanan says it has been a “tricky” task to select only 50.

“Capturing the incredible presence and memory of the Sydney Opera House across five decades of history has been no mean feat for the team,” says Buchanan.

“Searching the archives has been a wonderful adventure, finding long-forgotten gems and watching the impact and culture of the House evolve in front of your eyes.”

There is a culmination of genres and styles which will be available.

Classical music and opera lovers will be able to see performances from the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Dame Joan Sutherland, and the Australian Chamber Orchestra.

Within contemporary music, there will be performances from Gurrumul, Violent Femmes and Vance Joy available.

There are also various performances from Opera Australia, The Australian Ballet and Bell Shakespeare, and speeches from Steven Hawking, DeRay Mckesson and Pussy Riot’s Zona Prava.

The program also includes documentaries on the Opera House itself and special performances which have graced their stage.

With such an eclectic array of films available, make sure to check out their program for when these performances are available to stream online.
