Luke Baylis, the Managing Director of the Aussie franchise SumoSalad, was particularly happy to open his sixtieth store in his home suburb of Bondi Junction. What made me happy was seeing a healthier alternative to the usual takeaway options, with brochures on the counter detailing nutritional information. Service can be a little chaotic because many items are assembled fresh after you order. Salads like the Spicy BBQ Prawn ($8.95) which includes freshly cooked prawns, tomatoes, basil, capsicum, mixed lettuce and sweet chilli/tomato sauce, looked a bit messy in the box; but who can complain when that means the dressing is evenly distributed’ Cold weather options like their Soup Combo Deal ($10.95) give you a small bowl of soup (I chose Pumpkin, which only required some seasoning) and a toasted wrap. Wraps come in a variety of flavours ‘ my choice was a Chicken Mexicana which had chicken breast, avocado, cheese, salsa and light sour cream. All the food I tried was fresh; in fact my only gripe was them stocking Coca Cola in the drinks fridge! There are also newly opened stores in Eastgardens, Barrack Street Sydney and Sydney Central Plaza.
