Spiderman to cast web over the City2Surf

Watch out runners of the City2Surf because Spiderman will be doing whatever a spider can to win as he slings himself across Sydney for kids.

Fundraising for the Children’s Hospital at Westmead 41-year-old web slinger, Tony Barbaro, will raise money for the Think Kids Challenge as he runs the 14km event from Sydney’s city to Bondi Beach dressed in a lycra Spiderman costume.

Married with two children, the Maroubra local who considers himself crazy for running a marathon was the first costumed runner to finish in 2005, only to be beaten by Batman and Robin last year.

This is the fourth time Barbaro will run the event hoping to make people more aware of the hospital’s work.

‘I chose to support the Children’s Hospital at Westmead because I can only imagine what it would be like to have a sick child,’ he said.

Earlier this year Barbaro competed in the Nepean Triathlon sporting his Spiderman outfit for the 1km swim, 30km ride and 10km run, as well as the Maroubra Fun Run with his six- year-old son Leonardo dressed as Superman.

The Think Kids Challenge is a fundraising activity where supporters of the Children’s Hospital at Westmead can run the City2Surf on August 10 under the hospital’s name.

Registrations have closed for this year, but donations are still being accepted.
