Sex and drugs at the Pav

Sex and drugs at the Pav

By Kelly-Ann Brent
Sex, drugs, greed and status are the underlying themes in the black comedy Big Deal now playing at the Bondi Pavilion.
Written and directed by Ian Leete and co directed by John Samaha, Big Deal incorporates film and theatrical elements as it explores the lives of six quirky characters who live in Bondi Beach. Connected by the need for sex, drugs, status and greed, they all ultimately want to take control of their lives.
Leete said: ‘It’s about six young adults trying to find peace. There are opportunities offered in the play for the characters to get out of their situation.’
And as they search for a way out, they find themselves on a quest to conquer their addictions.
‘Everyone has been where the characters are and if they haven’t they will be one day,’ said Laurence Bruels who plays Lowflyer.
For Andrew Henry who plays the lead character Dealer, it is the play’s treatment of taboo themes that is most intriguing.
The black comedy tackles several controversial subjects, including legislation relating to drugs, prostitution and white collar crime.
Big Deal closes on September 6. Tickets are available online at www.moshtix.com.
