School children taking the bus to Woollahra Primary School are hopeful they won’t continue to be stranded at the bus stop, after the implementation of a new dedicated service.

State Vaucluse MP Gabrielle Upton successfully lobbied the Minister for Transport, Gladys Berijiklian, to introduce a new bus to replacing the current 400 service travelling from Bondi Junction to Woollahra Primary School.

The new bus service has been touted by Ms Upton as a boon for students and teachers of Woollahra Primary.

“The safety of our students is of paramount importance and this solution means families can rely on a dedicated school service to take them to and from school each day,” said Ms Upton.

The decision was made in response to a number of complaints by local residents their children have been left stranded by the current 400 bus service and have been second priority to other local residents.

In response to the concerns, a spokesperson for Transport for NSW said that a number of other alternate modes of transport are being developed for residents in the Waverley area.

“The NSW Government has announced plans to build light rail through the Sydney CBD to Randwick and Kingsford to reduce congestion and revitalise the city,” said the spokesperson.

“Detailed plans are now being developed for the $1.6 billion light rail project, which will provide fast and reliable links from the Eastern Suburbs into the CBD.

“The introduction of light rail will coincide with work to redesign Sydney’s bus network to reduce congestion, and provide more frequent high priority bus routes into and around the city.”

The bus route replaces the current 400 bus route, which originally travelled from Bondi Junction to Woollahra Public School.
