ROGERS DOES ROGERSTEIN

ROGERS DOES ROGERSTEIN

The persona of Tim Rogers has always featured a healthy portion of piss-taking.

The You Am I front-man might be winning acclaim in his latest turn as an actor, but a series of upcoming gigs indicate that he’s still not taking himself too seriously.

Over three nights, according to our contact at the Griffin Theatre Company, Rogers will perform a unique acoustic set, written with his long-time friend and collaborator Shel Rogerstein.

“Tim met the enigmatic, yet melancholic Shel Rogerstein on a train trip across Europe – they struck up a conversation about their two-tone shoes and became life-long friends,” our contact, with a tongue pressed firmly into her cheek, wrote.

No Google search will uncover Shel Rogerstein. He is either a reclusive genius or an alter ego of Rogers himself, channelling the late Shel Silverstein. Silverstein was a multi-talented artist, whose body of work features popular and country songs, including a number one for Johnny Cash.

While perhaps best known for his role as a raucous rocker for You Am I, Rogers has been equally at home performing country and folk as a solo musician or with his side-project The Twin Set.

Rogers made his stage debut as an actor in a production of Woyzeck at the Malthouse Theatre.

Rogers Does Rogerstein follows the performances of The Story of Mary MacLane By Herself, a play which Rogers co-stars in.
