Rhiannon runs for Senate

Greens party stalwart Lee Rhiannon will run for a seat in the Senate in the federal election.

The now former Greens MLC and long-time Bondi Junction resident has her sights firmly on Canberra after resigning from the NSW Upper House to contest the election.

Ms Rhiannon expressed her gratitude to the people of NSW for the opportunity to represent them for the past 11 years.

“It has been a privilege to work as a Greens MP representing the people of NSW in the Legislative Council, working closely with local communities fighting for progressive change,” she said.

“While it will be tough winning a senate seat, with the Greens needing to win 14.3 per cent of the vote to gain a Senate quota, I am hopeful we can regain a Senator for NSW.”

The Greens candidate for Wentworth, Matthew Robertson, endorsed Ms Rhiannon’s run saying she would be “a fantastic asset” for the Senate.

Cate Faehrmann, who was director of the NSW Nature Conservation Council, will take over from Ms Rhiannon as a Greens MP in the NSW parliament.
