Randwick lifeguards now on duty

With the warm weather now in full swing, Randwick City lifeguards are getting ready to make a splash in the busy summer season ahead.

The highly skilled lifeguards of Randwick City Council are now patrolling Maroubra, Coogee and Clovelly beaches, seven days a week.

The lifeguards, who have undertaken extensive training and are renowned for their superior lifesaving abilities, patrol the most popular beaches of Maroubra and Coogee from 7am to 7pm. Clovelly Beach, a smaller family-orientated beach, is patrolled from 8am to 6pm throughout the summer.

Newly re-elected Randwick Mayor Bruce Notley-Smith said during the warmer months, thousands of people converge on the beaches of Randwick, particularly Coogee beach, which is a hot spot for backpackers and tourists.

‘The lifeguards do a magnificent job keeping a watchful eye on beach-goers, educating people on the need to swim between the flags and are always ready to put their expert rescue skills to use, should someone be in trouble,’ he said. ‘With 24 lifeguards in total, many of whom are locals and know the waters well, Randwick’s beaches are in good hands.’

But it is always important to swim between the flags, look out for safety signs, and for parents to always keep an eye on children.
