Police continue search for missing woman

Police continue to hold concerns over the fate of an elderly woman, missing since September 10 in the inner west.

Larda Pickett, 77, was last seen at a newsagent on Norton Street, Leichhardt, after she left a nursing home on Marion Street in the same suburb.

Ms Pickett is described as being of Asian appearance, 142cm tall, with greying, black hair. She was last seen wearing a red jacket and navy pants. She may also be carrying a walking stick and green enviro-bag.

She suffers from dementia and another medical condition. Serious concerns are held for her welfare, as she requires medication and speaks little English. A police statement said it was out-of-character for her to be gone for such a lengthy period.

Following investigations, police have been made aware of a number of possible sightings of Larda around the Leichhardt area.

It is believed she may have been seen in a bakery on Norton Street about 5.30pm on Monday, September 13, and possibly on Mary Street at Lilyfield around 11am on Wednesday, September 15.

“Police have spoken to a number of people in the local area in an effort to locate Larda,” said Inspector Fabio Furia, Crime Manager at Leichhardt Local Area Command.

“We do believe that Larda may still be in the area. With her medical condition it is possible that she doesn’t realise that we are trying to locate her.”

Anyone who thinks they may have seen Larda is urged to contact Balmain Detectives via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
