STRONG police presence and good planning led to an arrest-free Surry Hills Festival last Saturday.
Over 85,000 people attended the all-day event at Prince Alfred Park ‘ held to raise money for the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre.
The fenced-off park was declared a licensed premise for the duration of the event and no BYO was permitted inside the park.
About 30 to 40 people were required by police to leave the festival and more than 30 people were spoken to about bringing alcohol on site. An elderly man collapsed during the festival and ambulance officers attended and treated the man.

POLICE used capsicum spray to arrest a woman after an inner city confrontation.
Three men and a woman were charged after police officers were injured in the altercation at about 3.30am last Saturday.
A police car was travelling down Knox Street at Chippendale when police allege a woman flagged them down and spat at the vehicle.
The officers stopped, got out of the vehicle and struggled to arrest the woman when a female constable was allegedly bitten.
A number of allegedly intoxicated men tried to intervene. All four arrested people were taken to Redfern Police Station for questioning. A 21-year-old Erskine Park woman was charged with resisting arrest, malicious damage, assaulting police and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. A 20-year-old Camperdown man and an 18-year-old Newtown man were each charged with hindering police. A 28-year-old St Peters man was charged with possession of a prohibited drug, possession of a knife and offensive language. All have been granted bail to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on May 9.

A MAN has been charged in relation to an aggravated robbery in Newtown in the early hours of last Saturday morning.
At about 12.15am, a 20-year-old man was walking along King Street when he was approached by at least four men.
He was then allegedly knocked to the ground, kicked to the head and body, and had his mobile phone stolen.
A short time later a 21-year-old man was arrested nearby, allegedly in possession of the victim’s mobile phone.
He was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery in company. The 21-year-old has been bailed to appear at Newtown local Court on Tuesday May 13.

SYDNEY police acting on a tip-off have seized almost $20,000 worth of heroin and cannabis, and $100,000 in cash.
A man and a woman were arrested on April 9 after officers received information about the supply of illegal drugs, police said. The tip-off led police to stop a man who was driving a Volvo in Waterloo. A search of the car revealed a quantity of heroin hidden inside the steering wheel column.
The driver was arrested and taken to Redfern police station for questioning.
Later in the afternoon, police arrested a woman outside a unit on McEvoy Street, at nearby Alexandria. She allegedly was in possession of heroin, cannabis and nearly $100,000 in cash.
Police seized more heroin and cannabis and nearly $2,000 in cash when searching the unit. The street value of all three drug seizures was about $19,000, police said.
A 46-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman have been charged with a number of offences, including supplying a prohibited drug and dealing with the proceeds of crime. They were refused bail.
