This Taiwanese restaurant has been bringing delicious flavours to Pyrmont peninsula for almost 20 years. Conveniently situated behind The Star, Blue Eye Dragon is a popular dining destination for locals and visitors. Combining tastes from China and Japan with authentic Taiwanese cuisine, Blue Eye Dragon offers an affordable fine dining menu in an elegant setting.
The spacious restaurant is perfect for corporate functions, special events, social groups or a get together with friends, and the choice of banquet menus takes the drama out of ordering food and allows you to relax and enjoy the incredible dishes.
Blue Eye Dragon is very much a family affair, with Muriel Chen at the helm. Muriel and her family have a genuine passion for serving high quality, delicious Taiwanese food in an atmosphere that is welcoming. Muriel also likes to bring people together to share, not only great food, but art, music, and each other’s company. To that end, Blue Eye Dragon has a number of exciting events coming up.
On October 3, they’re hosting the first what will be a montly singles dinner.
“It’s not necessarily ‘singles’ — it’s actually ‘solo’…because sometimes you get people at home by theirself, not necessarily single,” explains Muriel. The idea was actually suggested by one of Muriel’s customers who thought it would be great for people who don’t want to eat alone to be able to join a group of other people in the same situation.
“So they can have some company at a communal dinner,” says Muriel.
It is not intended to be a matchmaking exercise. It’s for people whose partners might work late or are away, or for travellers who don’t want to dine in their hotel, or for anyone who’d like to meet some new people and share delicious food and a convivial atmosphere.
The Communal Social Dinner costs $49 per head and includes a set meal with rice and a beverage (wine, beer, or non-alcholic beverage). Bookings required.
On October 16, diners can enjoy an eight course sharing banquet, dessert and a bottle of wine between two while listening to the soothing acoustic sounds of Matt Arthur and The Lazybones performing the hits of Eric Clapton. Tickets for the dinner and show are a bargain at $165 per person. Bookings required.
If you miss that show or you enjoyed it so much you’d like to see another one, then book your tickets for November 15 when acoustic trio, Wild Things Run will performa tribute to Carole King and James Taylor. This band is currently touring this popular show around the state. Bring friends and sing along to all the classics while you enjoy a terrific eight course banquet, dessert and a bottle of wine to share between two, all for $165. Make sure and book.
Muriel says the dinner + show events are always a great night. These particular artists have been performing at the restaurant for over a year.
When you walk into Blue Eye Dragon you might notice large, stunning artworks on the wall. They are the works of Tasmanian-born artist, Geoffrey Ian Wilson. Wilson spent his teenage years in America and studied art in California. His paintings are vibrant and mystical and reflect the culture and art of the indigenous Americans.
“We’ve had his paintings for about six months now,” says Muriel. “I’m just waiting for a new lot to come in. It does make the restaurant a bit more interesting.”
Muriel loves bringing people together to share their love of good food, music and art, and always with a mind to showcase the talent and tasted that Pyrmont has to offer.
“I always believe you support local, you shop local.”
