Man charged with murder after fatal pub brawl

A 24-year-old Baulkham Hills man was charged on Thursday with the murder of 31-year-old Van Chi Dang. The man attended City Central Police Station, where he was then arrested. Mr Dang died in hospital three days after a brawl outside the CBD’s Star Hotel on May 23. Police uploaded CCTV footage onto youtube.com in an appeal for public assistance.


Possible clue for armoured guard killing

Police have seized a fire-destroyed car they believe may be a silver Audi used during the fatal shooting of armoured guard Gary Allibon in an attempted robbery on June 7. Police and Fire services were called to a Milperra location, where Fire Brigade officers extinguished the fire.


Upset Tum Tum

The previous owner of Tum Tum’s Thai restaurant in Darlinghurst was fined more than $35,000 after being charged with 24 offences under the Food Act, including pest infestation, poor hygiene, unclean premises and poor food handling. The January 2008 inspections by the NSW Food Authority found cockroaches and cockroach faeces in food containers and said the restaurant had disregarded previous warnings.


Gain for a lane

A new laneway for outdoor dining, cafes, shops and offices in Darlinghurst is pending Council approval. Foley Street, parallel to Oxford Street, would also have new lighting, paving, solar panels and water harvesting measures in the proposed area – between Crown Street and Oxford Square. Council will vote on Monday.


Leaders sleeping rough tonight

Luna Park will see 167 business leaders sleep outside on sheets of cardboard tonight. They have raised more than $420,000 for the homeless in this year’s Vinnies CEO Sleepout. Taking place in all mainland capital cities, more than 600 Australian leaders from the public and private sectors have exceeded the $1 million event target.
