Move Over Heaths, The Jacob Elordis Are Coming To Sydney
In the midst of the global phenomenon of celebrity look-alike contests, Sydneysiders have begun their searches for their own handsome leading men.
After a Heath Ledger look-alike contest took place in Newtown last Saturday, a new one is coming to Sydney, this time searching for look-alikes for one of Australia’s hottest Queenslanders: 6’5 Jacob Elordi.
Arguably, Jacob Elordi, who rose to fame with his portrayals of Noah Flynn in cheesy teen movie series The Kissing Booth, and Nate Jacobs in edgy teen drama Euphoria, looks like many Aussie men, especially Sydney men, so hopefully there won’t be a lack of turnout for the contest.
A Reddit user posted on r/Sydney of a flyer pasted onto a pole in Newtown advertising the contest. The event is set to happen on December 7 at 2pm in Sydney’s Hyde Park, with a tantalizing offer of a “cash prize,” for the contest’s winner. But if a bunch of 6’5 men show up in Hyde Park, are there really any losers?
One Redditor commented, “When the run clubs don’t work, it’s time to start looking for someone at the Jacob Elordi meet-up.”
The winner of last weekend’s Heath Ledger look-alike contest was a young chap named Jude Bailey, who looks startlingly like the beloved Aussie actor.
@abc I’ll be entering the Jacob Elordi one on the 7th December too – see you there. 🎤 @lenasdoingthings #sydneyaustralia #lookalike #heathledger ♬ original sound – ABC Australia
Why do these contests keep happening? It’s a community event, suggested one bystander at the Heath Ledger contest. They bring people together in a light-hearted and funny and goofy way, said Lena Tuck (aka @lenasdoingthings on TikTok) who entered the contest herself dressed up as Heath Ledger for ABC Australia.
A media uproar was caused in New York last month during the Timothee Chalamet look-alike contest when the actual Timothee showed up (and didn’t win!).

There has been a smattering of other look-alike contests across the US recently, most notable Chicago-based Jeremy Allen White and San-Francisco-based Dev Patel look-alike contests, which each included a cash prize and drew hundreds of spectators.
Maybe we’ll be seeing more of these contests in the future, and hopefully they’ll replace run clubs and dating apps as the only ways to meet prospective partners.
