Moore Park proposal hits dead end

Moore Park will remain under the management of the Centennial Park and Moore Park Trust.

Chair of the Trust, John Walker, confirmed on June 25 that Premier Kristina Keneally has dismissed a proposal to transfer trusteeship of the park to the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust.

“I am delighted that Premier Keneally has ruled out the possibility that any public parklands will be moved away from the Centennial Parklands Trust and transferred to the SCG Trust,” Mr Walker said.

“The Premier also confirmed that revenue from Moore Park East, including temporary event parking, will continue to be available for the maintenance of the overall parklands.”

The Premier has instructed both Trusts to work with her department and the relevant government agencies to develop solutions to traffic, transport and parking issues at Moore
Park East and report back to the Premier’s Department within the next 30 days with agreed outcomes.

“We’re confident that improvements can be achieved without diminishing public use of the lands, if both parties cooperate fully. I would like to thank the Premier for her support and thank all those who signed the petition or attended the public rallies,” Mr Walker said.

A meeting opposing the proposal, held at Paddington Town Hall on June 23, drew an estimated 700 people.

Key speakers included former NSW Premier Neville Wran, Wentworth MP Malcolm Turnbull, Greens MLC Lee Rhiannon and City of Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore.
