Mine, Quarryman’s Hotel

The Quarryman’s Hotel is a family run, unrestored pub in Pyrmont. The quiet upstairs bistro is spacious and full of comfy red banquettes; topped with an original pressed tin ceiling. Without the usual pub noise, it’s a great place for a quick meal and catch-up ‘ the neighbouring table had three women in corporate garb. A recent menu change sees low prices for large serves of honest pub grub like a whopping Chicken Schnitzel ($13) with beer-battered chips and salad. Pride of the bistro is the Rump Steak ($10) – a large, grain-fed offering accompanied by their great chips, or vegetables and mash, with your choice of sauce. Dessert is a whopping serve of Bread and Butter Pudding ($8) ‘ best take a friend! If you’re in a drinking mood – and I do recommend you partake in a bottle of the well-priced and lively 2007 Catching Thieves Rose ($30) – why not get an accompanying bowl of Smoky BBQ Chicken Wings ($8/small, $12/large) or a Garlic Bread ($3.50)‘ Happy hour (4-6pm) sees local wine and beer drop to $3; and the bistro is open from 11am-9pm.
