A man has been released without charge after a woman fell to her death from his balcony in Parramatta.
Emergency services were called to a high-rise unit block on River Road at around 1:40am on Thursday, following reports of a woman lying on the driveway with critical injuries. Despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 40-year-old was taken into custody on Thursday morning after the woman’s body was discovered at the base of the apartment building.
He was then taken to Parramatta for questioning and, after several hours of interviews, was released around 2pm. Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
Investigation Underway as Police Gather Evidence
A crime scene has been established, and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. They have spoken with several people at the unit block as part of their inquiries.
According to police, the first call to triple zero came around 11.45pm on Wednesday, when raised voices could allegedly be heard in the background, but no one spoke to the dispatcher.
Another call was made nearly two hours later, at 1:40am on Thursday, when a passerby reportedly saw a woman dangling from a seventh-floor balcony.
Police have been told the woman, believed to be aged 39, fell from the balcony of her seventh-floor unit.
Detective Superintendent Barry Vincent told reporters on Thursday that one of the key lines of inquiry will be whether the woman was trying to hold on before falling.
“Obviously how she came to be there is a key factor,” he said.
It has also been revealed that an apprehended violence order (AVO) was in place, with the man listed as the person in need of protection.
She is yet to be formally identified.
The incident is being treated as suspicious, NSW Police confirmed.
