Man falls from Harbour Street pedestrian overpass, in critical condition at St Vincent’s Hospital

A man is in critical condition at St Vincent’s Hospital after falling from the Harbour Street pedestrian overpass near Bathurst Street in Sydney’s CBD last night, with NSW Police having established a crime scene with an investigation underway.

A relative of the man has told City Hub that the man is 16 years old, not in his 20s or 30s as police initially estimated, and was on a night out with friends when the fall occurred. The relative describes the man as a “lovely young teen” and that his parents are “utterly devastated and have no idea what happened to their son”.

Officers from the Sydney City Police Area Command were called to the Harbour Street pedestrian overpass near Bathurst Street at about 9:26pm on Saturday night, following reports that a man had fallen onto the roadway from the overpass and had suffered serious injuries.

The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital to undergo surgery.

Officers understand that several people may have been on the overpass at the time of the man’s fall, and are appealing to any witnesses to “clarify the circumstances” leading to the incident.

A crime scene has been set up on Harbour Street following the incident, as well as the overpass. NSW Police has said via social media that Sydney City Police are looking for witnesses following the incident, with any person with information urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The Day Street Police Station, which NSW Police have also asked witnesses to contact, is located about 500 metres from the location of the fall. Police have reminded the public not to report information through social media pages but through either Day Street Police Station or Crime Stoppers.
