On March 20 seven Eastern Suburbs cyclists will take part in the Sea 2 Summit Challenge, one of Australia’s toughest cycling events, to raise funds for Redkite.

The ride is harder than many mountain stages of the Tour de France with a 250-kilometre ride and an overall climb of 5500 metres – from sea level at Merimbula, on the south coast of NSW to the highest point in Australia, Mount Kosciuszko.

The riders are Aaron Lee of North Bondi, Tamas Bykerk of Bondi, Shane Mattiske of Randwick, Richard Finlayson of Coogee, Gary Hardwick of Bellevue Hill, Richard Shepherd of Rushcutters Bay and Ben Still of Bronte. There are 21 riders from four states in Australia.

Fitness trainer Aaron Lee said the ride would be a great test of physical strength and endurance but knowing that every mile will help families in need would keep him going. “I will hopefully rise to the occasion both physically and by raising much-needed funds for Redkite.” he said.

Tamas Bykerk, 19, is the youngest rider this year; his five-year-old cousin has cancer and has received music therapy through Redkite to help her through treatment. “I’ve been riding 500 kilometres a week to train for the Sea 2 Summit Challenge,” he said.

Since it began in 2006, the Sea 2 Summit Challenge has raised over $150,000 for Redkite. Show your support for Aaron, Tamas and the team by making a donation at www.s2schallenge.com.au.
