Lifesavers win best choreography award

Marching for their 5th year, the Lifesavers with Pride were thrilled to be awarded the Judges Choice Award for Best Choreography in the 2011 Mardi Gras Parade.

Made up of over 70 volunteer lifesavers from around Australia, they are gay, lesbian and straight lifesavers who march to strive for equality and diversity within the lifesaving movement.

Led by choreographer Laurence Stark and dressed in official uniform (red swimmers and patrol hat), the lifesavers performed a routine that included signs and symbols used on the beach.

The lifesavers have won three other Mardi Gras awards since they began marching: 2007 “Sexiest Float”; 2009 “Best Choreography”; and 2010 “Best overall float”
