Letter to the editor: community consultation

Dear Editor,

With reference to this week’s article regarding Barangaroo, it’s good to see moves towards remediating the site to ultimately enhance the economic viability and liveability of the inner city.

All the normal and rigorous checks and balances for the remediation will be in place, including oversight by an independent auditor. The City of Sydney will continue to be engaged in the progress of the remediation, to enhance transparency and accountability. As a long term inner-city resident, I strongly support transparent governance.

Community consultation and involvement comes in many forms. Some locals have told me their concerns with the consultation undertaken by the current member for Sydney, Ms. Moore. Locals have protested her decisions including demolishing the Rushcutters Bay caretaker’s cottage and rolling out concrete paths in city parks.

Sydney needs a representative who will truly listen and put the community first.
