Ku-ring-gai Councillors Spend $20k On Two-Night Workshop

Councillors for Ku-ring-gai have spent a whopping $20,000 on a two night stay at the Hydro Majestic hotel in the Blue Mountains, while they take part in what they’re calling a “workshop”.
From Wednesday night to Friday morning, nine of Ku-ring-gai’s councillors and eight senior directors will have a chance to take in the views of the famous hotel, while they debate a possible rate increase and contemplate how to respond to the government’s forced development push.
In a statement to the Sydney Morning Herald, a spokesperson for the Council said “it was felt that holding the workshop at an event venue outside the Ku-ring-gai LGA provided the best environment to examine, discuss and resolve the above significant matters.”
The council allegedly inquired into prices for three different venues, including the Peppers Craigieburn resort in Bowral, according to an SMH source.
The same council held a similar retreat last year at The Convent in the Hunter Valley, with The Post reporting that some members of staff bringing their partners and family along.
The Hydro Majestic is one of the most famous hotels in the country, with the smallest room being listed online for $209 a night.
Decisions to be made
The Ku-ring-gai council decided to fight the state government’s transport-oriented development plans back in December, reaching a secret agreement with the government in regards to its legal fight over the reforms, but it’s still undecided how to meet its housing target.
Councillors will also have a chance to review the results of a community survey about alternative methods of achieving the council’s housing target, instead of enforcing the government’s plan for heightened density around train stations, including the chance of keeping most of the area low-density to preserve its heritage, while also trying to built 45-storey of apartments in Gordon to compensate.
