June 13 is lucky birthday

Long-time Bondi resident Vito Migistrale is the first to register for a special party that celebrates those born on Waverley’s proclamation date – June 13, 1859.

That day Waverley became a municipality, making it the second oldest area in Sydney.

Mayor Sally Betts is inviting all residents born on June 13 to register to be part of a special sesquicentenary function later this year.

“Turning 150 is a significant milestone for Council and we are celebrating with a range of events, including a very special birthday party at Bronte House for locals like Vito who share our birth date.”

Mr Migistrale – an active member of the Waverley Community and Seniors Centre, president of the centre’s Italian social group and organiser of the local Bocce tournament – will turn 78 on Waverley’s 150th birthday.

He has lived in the area for 45 years after migrating to Australia from Italy more than 50 years ago.

“Waverley is my home and I love it. It has good beaches, parks and shops and I enjoy walking along the beautiful coast,” he said. “I feel very privileged to be part of the community and these celebrations.”

The council will present a commemorative medal as a special keepsake to those born on June 13.

Call Felicite Briggs on 9386 7709 to register for the VIP celebrations by Friday May 1.
