Huge lobster escapes dinner plate

A huge lobster has been rescued from an abandoned Chinese restaurant and taken to the Sydney Aquarium in Darling Harbour.
The 40cm lobster, along with two abalone and a silver perch, were rescued by the RSPCA from an Ashfield Chinese restaurant earlier this month.
The crustaceans and fish faced the prospect of death by starvation after the tenants of the restaurant were evicted. A tip-off from the public sent the RSPCA to the rescue and the southern rock lobster has now been adopted by Sydney Aquarium.
RSPCA inspector Matt French said the lobster ? destined for the dinner plate ? was in good condition and would now call the Sydney Aquarium home. He said the silver perch has gone into quarantine for extra care.
The RSPCA said lobsters, which can live for more than a century and have been known to resort to cannibalism in captivity, are protected under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ACT.
The restaurant tenants, who have not been located, would be prosecuted under the act when they are located, according to the RSPCA.
