Glass Brasserie *UPDATED*
When your marriage is at the point where choosing a weekend brunch café morphs into a fight, pack yourselves into a cab and come here. Drive in from Pitt Street to ensure a man in a uniform opens your door – somehow it’s transformative. As you enter the elegant glass surrounds of Luke Mangan’s Hilton enclave, collect a newspaper to avoid further conversation. Not that you’ll need it – the expansive breakfast buffet will ensure you’ll pass like ships in the night. The full Australian brekky shebang will set you back forty-two bucks (less if you unlock a FourSquare special). When you consider they have an in-house fresh juice bar offering up shots, glasses and made-to-order specials; a bakery with tasty curiosities like guava Danishes; and all the restorative Yakult, Yalla and fruity yoghurt you can stomach; it’s actually good value. And that’s even before you discover the cute congee station and wall of hot breakfasts! You can even take a stab at plating your own rendition of Mangan’s latest Signature Chef’s Breakfast ($24), using the kitchen’s beech wood smoked salmon, potato scones, pan-roasted asparagus, free-range scrambled eggs and watercress. By the time you reach for cold cuts, mid-morning pastries and a roadie Macchiato ($5), you’ll almost be on speaking terms…
