Get your sport online

The call has gone out to all social butterflies, sport junkies, interest groups and hobby nuts alerting them about a new free online resource.

Sydney-based MaMyDa.com.au (short for ‘make my day’) allows users to meet and socialise with like-minded people in their area, helping them find buddies for exercise, movies, the theatre or to book groups, foreign language clubs or knitting circles.

The idea is the brainchild of Bondi local German ex-pat Dagmar Geiger, a keen event organiser and outdoor enthusiast.

‘I’m a movie enthusiast, rock climber and roller blader,’ said Dagmar. ‘I always seemed to be looking for people to join me. It occurred to me there was a real need for an effective online resource which allowed people with similar interests to meet up locally.’

The site has been up and running for a couple of weeks so Dagmar and head honcho Rod Sullivan are inviting Bondi residents to get involved.

‘MaMyDa content is created for the people, by the people,’ said Rod. ‘The goal is to offer activities across Australia and eventually the world, but for now, we want to offer depth of content locally. So we’re inviting all recreation clubs and out-going individuals in Bondi to have a look, register and create events.’

The site is designed to appeal to all ages and demographics.

It has two core functions: searching for activities and creating activities. Users can easily locate – via a Google-like search engine ‘ one-off events. The search is generated by interest, location or date. The user can then RSVP and view a full attendee list.

There is also scope for privacy ‘ members will soon be able to create events they only wish friends to attend.

To post an activity, a user selects or creates an interest type, and lists activity details ‘ what, where, when etc. The site also provides a Google map to the venue.

‘It’s free to join ‘ so there’s nothing to lose,’ said Dagmar.
