Taste Korea
During the month of October you can enjoy a taste of Korea for the bargain price of ten dollars at some of Sydney’s best Korean restaurants. I was hooked by a stone hot-pot of Dolsot Bibimbap, an excellent rice dish mixed at the table, full of beef, sautéed vegetables and egg. During my meal at Haemil I also tried Kimchi, a fermented pickled cabbage dish which most Koreans eat every day. It’s tasty and good for you, being rich in vitamins and acting as a digestive aid – available in a Kimchi Pancake too. Participating restaurants are listed at www.ilovekoreanfood.com.au plus there are prizes to be won, including a trip to Seoul!

Recycled Handbags

WEBAppleDrinkBag

Fair and ethical trade means more than just coffee these days. Last week I picked up a wonderful piece of recycling – a handbag made from recycled apple drink containers – crafted and signed by a Filipino artisan from Bodhi Books and Gifts. The range of inexpensive and well-made bags crafted from drink cans, recycled rice sacks and rolled-up newspapers range from $16.50 to $50. Items are especially selected to benefit artisans and struggling communities.
