Miriam and the Monkfish

Part one-woman theatre, part live cooking show, Miriam and the Monkfish is the brainchild of actress Sophie Kelly and director Tessa King. Sophie plays Miriam, a woman thrust into the limelight when her husband invites some potential clients over in a last ditch attempt to save his flailing business. Miriam has never set foot in the kitchen, so their fate now rests in her in utterly inept hands. Look on in horror as Miriam tries to emulate Nigella with disastrous results!

Actress Sophie King points out, “working with food always brings a level of uncertainty – the stakes are heightened as a performer because things can always go wrong.” Luckily for Sophie, some of the food fatalities in past seasons “have gone horribly wrong but the outcomes from the improvisation have often been so comical we have worked it into the show permanently.” This show is particularly pertinent in these food, fat and financially obsessed times.
