Two events that caught my eye at this year’s Sydney Writers’ Festival are Serendip: A Sri Lankan Journey and Celebrity Chefs Exposed. In the former, acclaimed Flying Fish chef Peter Kuruvita shares his childhood memories of Sri Lanka and cooks some traditional cuisine from his book, Serendip.

The jab at celebrity-chef culture comes from award-winning wine writer and author of numerous books on both drinking and eating, Ben Canaider. He’s doing an expose on what celebrity chefs are getting away with and how, for free on the Heritage Pier, Cafe Stage at 5.30pm on the 22nd May, 2009. Supper, Sounds & Sangria
Sunday evenings can turn a little bleak, what with the horrors of Monday morning encroaching. Low key clubbing with phat lounge style beats, tasty treats and jugs of Sangria is the formula to help you forget. Get all this and a stellar setting amongst one of Sydney’s sexiest crowds (or was it just the evening I went?) at The Victoria Room’s latest night Supper & Sounds, every Sunday from 6pm. What work? Free Muffins
Early birds will catch a free Muffin Break muffin if they happen to pass through Martin Place at 6.30am on Friday 22nd May, 2009. Muffin Break are celebrating twenty years of operation. Their motto of ‘always fresh’ sees all muffins baked fresh in store every day; and according to a recent survey, Australia’s favourite daily muffin is Apple Cinnamon.
