Festival of the Winds

Festival of the Winds

Australia’s largest and most exciting annual kiteflying festival, Festival of the Winds, will be held on Sunday September 13 at Bondi Beach from 11am to 4pm.

There will be a large contingent of local and international kitemakers and flyers including John Pollock from the United States and Matt Bedford from New Zealand.

The Australian Kiteflyers Society will be showcasing their Delta and Free Form kites and there will be examples of the latest kite technology from India, Malaysia, China and Japan. Competition winners will be announced at 3pm.

Everyone is welcome to bring their own kite and fly it – If you don’t have a kite you can buy one from stalls in the park or make your own at the kite-making workshops.

There will also be children’s entertainment on the beach including pony, carousel and rides, face painting, animal farm, wandering minstrels, jugglers, stilt walkers, puppeteers, clowns, craft workshops and puppet shows. Great music and dance acts and free dance workshops promise fun for all and food stalls will offer food and drink from all over the world.

There’s also an aerial art exhibition and the Astronomers without Borders photographic exhibition, The World at Night, at the Bondi Pavilion Gallery until September 13.

Flying displays will depend on weather conditions and public kiteflying on the beach is only permitted within a designated area. For information call the Bondi Pavilion on 8362 3400.
