Election 2010 gossip

Accidental prime minister
Guess which prominent Liberal party pollie was overheard quipping at an eastern suburbs event that if Tony Abbott won the election he would truly be the “accidental prime minister”? The answer is close to home.

Google magic
Some minor parties and Independents have discovered that when their names are googled a Liberal party sponsored banner appears at the top of the search result page.
Pip Hinman, the Socialist Alliance candidate for Grayndler, says this trick costs money and is unfair as the major parties have lots of money to throw around at election time. “They are abusing this financial advantage as we are not funded by the big end of town. The irony is that the hits to our website have increased massively since this cynical ploy was exposed.”
Google and see which parties have been “sponsored” in this way. The Greens have been targeted but not the Democrats, Family First or the Sex party.

Multi-coloured appeal
Some Wentworth candidates are grumbling about the flyers put out by the Turnbull campaign. The Greens are complaining that his green flyers are mimicking Greens campaign material while others are objecting to an “avalanche of personally addressed leaflets landing in local letterboxes – four some irate voters claim”. They say this is taking gloss off Malcolm’s environmentalist credentials. But Turnbull’s office says the various coloured flyers aim to attract attention from different voters.

Neighbourly support
Rumour has it that Labor candidate Steven Lewis’s next door neighbours have a poster of Malcolm Turnbull on the tree in their front yard.
