An eight-year-old boy who was allegedly beaten with a baseball bat in Bankstown while his mother was kidnapped, has emerged from an induced coma after almost two weeks.
The boy was bashed in the back of the head when Thi Kim Tran was abducted from her home at 10:30pm on April 17 and forced into the back of a dark SUV.
The 45-year-old was later found in a burnt-out vehicle in Beverly Hills, around 6km away from her home.
Police have claimed the brutal kidnapping and murder of Thi Kim Tran is related to her partner’s alleged links to drug manufacturers.
Thi Kim Tran’s partner’s alleged involvement with organised crime under investigation
Detective Superintendent Joe Doueihi said Tran’s partner’s alleged involvement with organised crime was being investigated.
“We believe that the motivation is a clear result of the male partner’s involvement with an organised crime network,” Doueihi said.
“It appears the male was in some sort of conflict with the members of that particular organised crime group,” Doueihi said last month.
The eight-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy were inside the house at the time of the invasion.
The boy’s 15-year-old brother was not physically harmed, but suffered psychological trauma from what he witnessed.
On Thursday, the eight-year-old had emerged from the coma, as reported by 9News.
Police condemn brutal violence to Thi Kim Tran and her sons
Superintendent Doueihi described the level of violence against innocent family members as “rare and unprecedented,”, stating that the actions of the five men showed a “clear disregard for human life”.
“These offences are clearly targeted offences … against innocent people,” he said at a press conference in April.
Superintendent Doueihi also said that organised crime groups were “breaking their own code of conduct” by targeting innocent women and children.
“It’s something we at the NSW Police Force will not tolerate and we will throw every resource we have available to solve this crime.”
NSW Police have claimed Tran and her two children “had no knowledge” of her husband’s alleged involvement with the group.
No arrests have been made at this time.
Individuals who witnessed the incident or have access to CCTV footage have been urged to come forward.
