Sydney City Police’s Acting Commander & Superintendent Clayton McDonald spoke on the ongoing investigation, stating, “Initial inquiries suggest that the cause of the collision … came from one vehicle travelling in the northbound lane.”
“[It] veered across into the traffic in the southbound lane resulting in the initial collision.”
Following news of the crash, NSW emergency services rushed to the scene and found the two men stuck in their vehicles, along with two other victims with minimally sustained injuries.
Firefighters managed to get the two men out of their vehicles, but they sadly succumbed to their injuries.
Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Adam Dewberry elaborated on the tragic accident, saying firefighters “cut and pulled apart the car [and] removed both doors” from the two vehicles in order to save the trapped men.
The other injured victims, a man and a woman, were taken to Royal North Shore Hospital and are in stable condition.
