Sydney icon Danny Lim has been admitted to hospital after an incident allegedly involving the police.
Lim is an activist, well known for peacefully wearing his trademark sandwich boards around the city.
The alleged incident involving a security guard and NSW Police outside the Art Gallery of NSW was “quite similar” to what happened to him in the Queen Victoria Building in 2022.
NSW Police confirmed that emergency services were dispatched to the Art Gallery on Tuesday to assess the welfare of an 80-year-old man.
According to a police spokesperson, the man was interviewed by officers and subsequently transported to the hospital by ambulance for further evaluation.
“No offence was committed and no further action will be taken by police”, a spokesperson told The Daily Mail.
This is not the first time Lim has been hospitalised after an encounter with the police.
Danny Lim Subject to Violent Arrest by NSW Police
In 2022, Lim was hospitalised following a violent attempt by NSW Police to remove him from the QVB.
Lim had been walking through the CBD building towards the Town Hall train station wearing a sandwich board reading “SMILE CVN’T” when police attempted to arrest him.
Despite multiple requests for an ambulance and informing the police of his post-traumatic stress disorder, the activist was forcibly thrown to the ground.
Lim sustained an injury to his cheek and suffered a brain bleed and neck injury after he was brought in to St Vincent’s hospital.

In November 2022, an independent review was established to examine the actions of the police during their attempted arrest of Danny Lim.
“I have spoken with the Police Commissioner, who has advised me an independent review has been established to examine the actions of police during the arrest of Mr Lim,” Mr Toole said at the time.
“I will await the findings of that review, and wish him a full recovery.”
Greens Demand Accountability
NSW Greens MP Sue Higginson described the 2022 incident as a “terrible reflection of the unfettered powers of the NSW Police to arrest protesters”.
“In 2019/20 the NSW police were sued 298 times for a variety of actions including assault, battery, unlawful imprisonment and malicious prosecution. During the same period, NSW Police paid out more than $24 million to settle and defend police misconduct charges. We need to see an end to NSW Police being responsible for investigating themselves and we need better independent oversight and accountability”, Greens MP Higginson said in a statement.
“Sue Higginson MLC and The Greens NSW stand in solidarity with Mr Lim and all of the peaceful protesters across NSW who have been targeted by police, particularly with First Nations people and people of colour who are so regularly subjected to this treatment”, she said.
