An eccentric artist by nature, photographer by trade, her art adorns the walls in this converted house. It reminds me of the old Deans Café in King Cross, which has sadly closed its doors. We arrive in the afternoon but are coaxed into an all-day breakfast of Spanish Scrambled Eggs ($15.50). It comes with Barb’s homemade capsicum jam, and generous chunks of chorizo. I’m not disappointed and neither is my partner who goes for Salmon Patties ($16.50) with a garden salad, her famous dressing and homemade chilli mayo. The mayo is silky and loaded with garlic – guard it with your life, especially if you’re also going to order the Haloumi Salad ($16). The huge pieces of salty cheese, grilled eggplant and roasted tomatoes go superbly well with dippings of mayo. Barbie is gluten intolerant, so her meals shy away from bread or chips, leaving room to follow your bohemian breakfast with dessert. Our Banoffee Pie ($10) was the finishing touch on a curiously pleasant afternoon.
