Crane Bar

Push past the thumping nightclubs and bright young things falling over in their heels, and you’ll find this inviting late-night Japanese oasis. Conveniently, it’s open 24-hours, so you can kick your senses back into action with a Miyagi Mule ($18), a Japanese take on the classic with a wasabi zing; couple it with spicy Edamame ($8) and you’re in for a real buzz. Snacking options are vast, so take some friends and share everything, including the Gorgeous Sushi ($20), aptly named with scallops and delightfully seared trout. Chicken Karage ($17) is insanely good – and addictive – with a subtle wasabi mayo. Likewise, the Balmain Bug ($36) with miso emulsion sauce – it’s a little exxy, but the bug is perfectly cooked and the sauce is worth its weight in gold. An interesting option is the Kangaroo Tataki ($22) – the kangaroo is sliced and seared, served Italian-style on
pita bread. We couldn’t decide on dessert so ended up sharing the Milky Brulee ($16) and Chocolate Pot ($13), both cute gifts on an already rewarding experience. Japanese food can often seem like sensory overload but Crane offers it within a natural environment – make sure you retire to the atrium out the back to keep the night alive.
