County Bondi Kids

Irish eyes are smiling in Bondi this week at Galilee Primary School as the children design their own float to take part in the Sydney St Patrick’s Day Parade on March 15.

The parade is in its 30th anniversary year and brings thousands of people together annually in the city to celebrate.

Galilee Primary is lucky to have two Irish teachers to help them with their project. Miss Murphy and Miss Polin have been helping with fundraising to raise money and helped the children choose their theme ,’County Bondi.’ (Ireland is divided into 32 counties and so as Bondi is now so well-populated by Irish, it soon has earned the nickname, ‘County Bondi’, Ireland’s 33rd County!)

The ‘County Bondi’ float will have a ‘sea’ theme so the children have been creating masterpieces in the art room to add to it. The school also held a competition to choose the best logo for the T-shirts to be worn in the parade. Congratulations to Ivy Gibson, whose winning design will be featured on the County Bondi T-shirts.

To continue with the celebrations, Galilee are also hosting a St Patrick’s Day mini festival on March 17 with green food and music.

For the moment, however, they are hard at work for the float. Come and see them on Sunday March 15 at 12 noon. The parade starts in the CBD and ends in Hyde Park for a free fun-filled family day with live music and games for kids, including Irish Gaelic football coaching.
